Why are Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors So Important?

Having properly placed and installed Smoke and Carbon monoxide detectors are crucial for your family’s safety. Here are the National Fire Protection Association guidelines for each type of detector.

Smoke Detectors:

(1) In every bedroom

(1) Outside each sleeping space (like hallways)

(1) On each level of the home

Ceiling Mounted: at least 4 inches from a wall

Wall Mounted: 4-12 inches from the ceiling

DONT:

Install in garages, near air vents or air returns, near ceiling fans, in close proximity to a cooking area or in a bathroom.

 

Carbon Monoxide Detectors:

(1) Outside each sleeping space

(1) On each level of the home

Can be mounted on walls, ceilings or even plug in style.

DONT:

Install near air vents or air returns, dead air spaces, in close proximity to fuel burning appliances or in kitchens.
